Christine van Driel

I have always been visually oriented, and have been drawing and painting ever since I can remember.  I earned a degree in Art from the University of Toronto, before raising three young children took over much of my time.

I kept up my interest in art, however, by participating in many professional artists' workshops and by belonging to several painting groups.  I also taught continuing classes in drawing and painting to adults and seniors.  My drawing skills were very useful during the years I was a teacher of English as a second language for newly arrived immigrants to Canada.  My paintings have been exhibited in group and juried shows in Southern Ontario.  I also held a solo show at the University of Toronto.

My body of work includes everything from pen and ink drawings to watercolours, through to abstract expressionism in mixed media.  These days I enjoy painting in acrylic and oil, often using old family photos and everyday objects for inspiration.  I also get ideas from the many places I have visited around the world.  My work also includes portraits, paintings of family homes and other scenes done on commission.
